Speeding driver arrested for drunk driving

On Behalf of | Oct 30, 2019 | Drunk Driving Charges

Georgia police recently arrested a speeding driver who they say was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested shortly after being involved in a single-car accident. Charged with multiple offenses, including DUI and reckless driving, he could possibly be facing some serious criminal consequences.

In the early hours of Oct. 12, 2019, police say they spotted a driver traveling approximately 131 mph on a highway. Although authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver allegedly continued on in an attempt to lose them. This situation ended when the 33-year-old driver hit a median made of concrete. His car then flipped over across a guardrail.

The driver did not require medical care at a hospital, and police noted that he walked out of his vehicle after the accident without a problem. It is possible that he may have suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. Police did not clarify why they suspected he was under the influence. However, he was also charged for having an open container of alcohol while driving, so it is likely that this might have been a factor in that suspicion.

Georgia state law treats drunk driving allegations very seriously. Defendants can lose their driving privileges without being convicted and usually fairly soon after being charged. It is important that those who are charged with DUIs educate themselves about their rights and options, a process that might be helped along with the right kind of guidance. For some, this means speaking with an experienced attorney who is familiar DUI defense.
