Gwinnett County residents may know that facing criminal charges in Georgia can be a stressful experience. During an arrest, the behavior of a suspect may influence the legal outcome for the person accused. Even for adults, it can be difficult to determine how to react when law enforcement makes contact to accuse someone of a crime. Recently, a 12-year-old boy found himself facing a situation that resulted in felony charges after an incident at a local mall.
The boy had achieved a level of fame as a young musician, even appearing on a popular television show to showcase his talents. In an attempt to begin a career in the music industry, the boy, with the help of family members, attempted to make and sell his own CDs. He was reportedly warned he was not allowed to sell them inside a local mall.
The boy returned to the mall in the care of his aunt, who by all accounts supports his attempt to reach success in the music industry. Police arrived and say they confronted the boy about selling his CDs. The boy apparently tried to explain that he was not selling CDs on this occasion, and was only at the mall to meet up with other musicians. One police officer reportedly told the youngster he was going to jail, and the frightened boy allegedly fought back when the officer grabbed his arm. He has been charged with several crimes, including felony obstruction.
When anyone in Gwinnett County must answer to felony charges, he or she may want to partner with an experienced criminal defense attorney. Due the the boy’s age in this incident, there are a number of important issues that a Georgia defense attorney will want to address. The goal, of course, is to pursue a result that will protect the boy’s legal rights while seeking to achieve a result that will also protect his future.
